The Hicksville Middle School Robotics teams, the Meteorites and the Meteorites Squared, competed at the SBVPLI FIRST Lego League Qualifying Tournament at Mineola High School on Saturday, January 26, 2019.  This year’s theme was “Into Orbit”.

Both teams did very well placing 1st and 4th respectively in the overall competition, which consisted of twenty-eight teams. As a result both teams will be advancing to the Long Island Championship that will be held on March 3rd at Longwood High School.

The Meteorites earned the top score in Robot Design and as a result received the Robot Performance Award.  This award recognizes a team that scores the most points during the Robot game.  Teams have a chance to compete in at least three 2.5 minute matches and their highest score counts.

The Meteorites also received the Alliance Award for their alliance with Longwood Middle School.  This award is given to the two teams who score the most when they are working together as a team.  The Meteorites also earned the Core Value Inspiration Award.  The award celebrates a team that displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit.

The Meteorites Squared earned the Core Value Gracious Professionalism Award. This award recognizes a team whose members show each other and other teams respect at all times.  They recognize friendly competition and mutual gain are possible both on and off the playing field.

We are very proud of both teams.
