We are excited to announce an important update to our 6th-grade schedule! We are transforming our 6th Grade Success Studio—previously a student self-directed period—into a structured, instructional course designed to give our students the tools they need to thrive in middle school and beyond.
Success Studio will now be a Pass/Fail instructional class tailored specifically to support the academic, organizational, and social-emotional growth of our 6th graders.
Here is an overview of what your student will experience in the transformed Success Studio:
-
Middle School 101 & Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Navigating the transition to middle school can be a big step. Using units from our Yale RULER program, students will learn essential emotional intelligence skills, self-awareness, and strategies to manage stress and build healthy relationships while engaging in meanigful projects.
-
Study & Organizational Skills: To set students up for long-term academic success, we will teach explicit strategies for binder organization, digital file management, and active reading/annotation techniques.
-
Anchor Texts & Literacy Support: Aligned with our district literacy focus, students will engage with carefully selected anchor texts. These readings feature meaningful themes and life lessons directly relevant to the middle school transition, helping deepen critical thinking and reading skills.
-
WIN Time ("What I Need"): Dedicated WIN time allows students to work on class projects, homework, and IXL skill updates with direct guidance, feedback, and teacher support.
Our goal with this transition is to ensure every 6th grader feels supported, organized, and confident as they build a strong foundation for their middle school journey.
