Community Safety Alert – Suspicious Vehicle Incident
Dear Hicksville Community,
We are sharing an important safety alert regarding an incident that was reported to the district today.
At approximately 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, a student was walking home after getting off her school bus near Hus Lane and Richard Avenue. While walking toward Princess Street, the student reported that she was approached by an individual driving a white van.
According to the student, the individual asked her to enter the van and offered her a ride. The student did not enter the vehicle and continued home. She reported the incident to her parents and subsequently shared the information with a teacher at school today.
The individual was described as a white male in his early to mid-30s with dark hair.
We are sharing this information so families can remain aware and reinforce important safety practices with their children.
- Maintain Awareness: Be mindful of your surroundings at all times. Avoid distractions such as wearing headphones or using mobile devices while walking to and from school.
- Travel in Groups: Walk with a peer, sibling, or group whenever possible, especially before and after school hours.
- Keep Your Distance: Never approach or enter a vehicle driven by someone you do not know. If a vehicle slows down or stops near you, alter your path immediately.
- Trust Your Instincts: If an approach feels unsafe, run toward a populated area, school building, or safe haven (such as a local business) immediately.

Report Immediately: Inform a trusted adult, school official, or emergency responder as soon as possible if you observe suspicious behavior or feel unsafe.
