Meet Your Counselor
Guidance is an essential part of the education continuum offered to Hicksville Middle School students. The guidance program works towards the creation of a learning environment in which each student is assured the opportunity to realize his or her full capabilities. Guidance counselors work together with parents, teachers and administrators to assist in developing the whole child, intellectually and academically, individually and socially.
Each year represents an integral step in a student's development. With the assistance of guidance counselors, students will engage in a process of academic and personal goal setting so that they may be better equipped to succeed in the middle level grades, high school and when they attend college.
Students will be assigned a counselor who will help them throughout the three years in middle school. We strongly encourage students and parents to speak to the guidance counselor if students are experiencing any academic or personal struggles, and to plan future course of studies. All counselors always welcome the opportunity to speak with students and parents. The services of the Hicksville Middle School Guidance Department are always available!

Hello, my name is Mr. Louis and I am currently the 6th grade school counselor for students with the last names that begin with A-LEA here at Hicksville Middle School. I have been a counselor here for 26 wonderful years. I really enjoy assisting students as they transition into adolescence and encouraging them to work towards their future goals and aspirations. As a counselor, I work as part of a team with parents, teachers and administrators to address the academic, personal, social and developmental needs of students. Of course my most important role is to be an advocate for the children and to help facilitate a love of learning, self-awareness and an appreciation of diversity among students and the community.
Middle school is an important time for students and their families to start thinking about and preparing for the future. Just as elementary school was the foundation for learning in middle school, building a strong foundation here in middle school will help students prepare for success in high school and beyond. Developing strong study habits and time management skills in middle school will help prepare you for your high school years.
I encourage all students and parents to contact me if you ever have any concerns or questions. My office is located in room 101 and I can be reached by phone (516) 733-2275 and by email glouis@hicksvillepublicschools.org.
